After the terribly tragic fire at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society on Wednesday the 19th in which 15 cats lost their lives, there is a campaign to get the Humane back on it’s paws and feet!

WE CO-SPONSORED AN AMAZING EVENT ON MARCH 14TH – A LOW COST VACCINE AND MICROCHIP CLINIC WHICH SERVED OVER 60 ANIMALS! HELP US DO MORE!
AND IN APRIL 2010 BAWF GAVE A $5,000 CHECK TO BERKELEY ANIMAL CARE SERVICES TO SUPPORT THE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR ANIMALS IN THE SHELTER.
Berkeley Animal Welfare Fund is a California 501c3 non profit organization with a simple mission: ‘to promote animal welfare and protection in the City of Berkeley, County of Alameda, California, its environs and elsewhere.’ We believe that in acting locally to support progressive animal welfare, we can have a far wider impact.
In 2002, the voters of Berkeley supported Measure I, a property tax, to build a new, safe model animal shelter to replace the crumbling facility on 2nd Street in Berkeley. But there is simply not enough money to build the shelter to the standards we believe are right for a progressive city, to a high standard of ‘green’ environmentally sustainable construction, to a gold standard of animal care, and one which encourages adoptions, ‘rescue’ and enables every animal to have the best chance at a new life.
In 2008 BAWF made a decision that the fundraising program would be divided into two distinct areas : Community outreach, education and support through partnering with other groups to help animals and their owner/guardians before they ever get to the shelter. And if animals are in the shelter, our commitment to helping Berkeley Animal Care Services means giving BACS the support they need to provide the best care to animals in the shelter.
In these tough economic times many people are surrendering or abandoning their animals with medical needs – minor and major. BAWF recently co-sponsored a low cost vaccine clinic which served over 40 animals and their appreciative owner/guardians.
Secondly, we need to close the gap between the available bond monies and what is needed to build a model shelter. When you donate to BAWF, you know you are contributing to crucial animal welfare programs and a progressive animal shelter. Support Berkeley Animal Care Services – a progressive municipal shelter – which believes that every animal deserves that second chance.
